Scenario 2 is similar; the crucial difference is that you first divide the number and then round it, only then remultiplying it. As you can see in Figure 4-2, I tried to condense the operations from the last script into a single script line.

Figuring out the product category from the product number Since you don t have script lines to specify the order of operations, you have to rely on either AppleScript s precedence rules or simply on good ol parentheses. The first operation is in the innermost set of parentheses: product_number / 1000 The result is 55.782 this result is then processed by the command in the second set of parentheses: round (product_number / 1000) rounding down You round down since even the product number 55999 still belongs to category 55000. This way, the number 55.782 rounds down to 55. The final multiplication operation returns the number to its original length: (round (product_number / 1000) rounding down) * 1000 which returns 55000.

Interest-rate and currency swaps, FRAs, forward foreign-exchange contracts, and interest-rate futures are not subject to a specific risk charge. This exemption also applies to futures on an interest-rate index (e.g., LIBOR). However, in the case of futures contracts where the underlying instrument is a debt security, or an index representing a basket of debt securities, a specific risk charge will apply according to the credit risk of the issuer, as set out in the preceding paragraphs. General market risk applies to positions in all derivative products in the same manner as for cash positions, subject only to an exemption for fully or very closely matched positions in identical instruments as defined. The various categories of instruments should be slotted into the maturity ladder and treated according to the rules identified earlier. 2.7.3 Equity Position Risk To determine the capital requirements for equity price risks, all positions in equities and derivatives, as well as positions whose behavior is similar to equities (hereinafter these are referred to as equities) are to be included.

To cap off the rounding discussion, I ll show how to put together a handler that will be in charge of rounding numbers. The handler will accept two parameters: The number to round in the real value class. The number of decimal places. This will be a small integer that tells the handler what precision you want. For instance, a value of 2 will turn 1.66667 to 1.67.

Here is the complete handler followed by a brief explanation of the steps: 1. on round_number(the_number_to_round, the_decimal_precision) 2. set multiplier to 10 ^ the_decimal_precision 3. the_number_to_round * multiplier 4. round result 5. result / multiplier 6. end round_number I already discussed steps 2 through 4 earlier. You multiply the number you want to round and then you round it and divide it by the same number to return it to its original range. The neat feature here is how you got to the number you need to multiply and divide by. You use the number of decimal places that you wanted to end up with, and you raise the number 10 by that number. For example, if you want to end up with three decimal places, you would do this calculation: 10 ^ 3. The result will be 1,000, which will be then used in the rounding. Figure 4-3 shows the handler, a statement calling that handler, and the result.
